The Interfaith Hospitality Network is a unique community response to homelessness. The network is made up of churches and synagogues in the
Worcester
area that have pledged the use of their facilities and the participation of volunteer members in this nationally recognized program.
The network provides transportation by a van to a congregation each evening at
5:30 P.M.
where volunteers provide an evening meal for 3-5 families. Evenings are spent playing, sharing, and doing homework. Then each family retires to a private area for the evening. Families rise at
6:00 A.M.
to pack lunches, have breakfast and board the van to return to the family resource center, or to attend school, work, or training programs.
Each congregation hosts for a one or two week period when approximately 35 volunteers give their time each week to share in this unique community mission. Volunteers cook and serve meals; provide evening and overnight staffing; but most importantly provide moral support and encouragement; and provide a safe and comfortable environment. Guests benefit from interaction with compassionate volunteers who, by their kind deeds, create a homelike atmosphere in their churches and synagogues.
St. Joseph
s has been involved with the network since 1997 and has hosted families each year since its beginning. We are always looking for volunteers to work during the time our guests are with us. Wont you step up and help those less fortunate than
ourselves?
